(Persia Digest) – The Head of Iran’s Judiciary has announced that 50 thousand prisoners will be pardoned on the 40th anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Ayatollah Sadegh Amoli-Larijani added: “Of these, some will be freed, and some will have their sentences reduced.”
Persia Digest (PD) reports that prisoners are always pardoned in Iran on the occasion of religious eids or national celebrations by the Head of the Judiciary under certain conditions. This must be approved by the Supreme Leader.
According to Tehran’s prosecutor, the Head of the Judiciary has proposed a larger number of pardons on the occasion of the Revolution’s 40th anniversary celebrations with fewer conditions.
