(Persia Digest) – Prior to the meeting of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, said: “Safeguarding the JCPOA is vital for Europe and EU foreign ministers will once again emphasize their commitment to the full implementation of the nuclear agreement with Iran today.”
She added: “The three European signatories to the JCPOA, the UK, France, and Germany, will inform the other parties of the result of their efforts, in particular pertaining to the US administration, and our sustained work with Iran to continue our adherence to the JCPOA.”
Mogherini continued: “Currently, we have sanctions imposed against Iran regarding non-nuclear issues. But, we have no plans to impose new sanctions.”
She stressed: “We will do our utmost to work with our American allies to guarantee that all parties will continue to remain committed to the JCPOA.”
Mogherini reiterated: “The last meeting of the Joint Commission of the JCPOA was very positive. The IAEA has approved Iran’s commitment to its obligations under the JCPOA 11 times, also approved by all signatories. The credibility of the IAEA is vital at this point, especially when we are hoping to begin negotiations with North Korea.”
She went on to add: “Our work continues and we believe that unity on the issue is very important. The EU has always said very clearly that keeping the JCPOA is vital for us and guarantees our strategic interests. We shall remain committed to it.”
Persia Digest reports that the spokesperson for Federica Mogherini tweeted that a coordination session between Mogherini and the FMs of France, UK, and Germany will take place on the sidelines of the European External Relations Council in Luxembourg, saying participants discussed their continued support for the 2015 JCPOA nuclear agreement with Iran at the session.
