(Persia Digest) - On the occasion of the Assyrian National Day on the first day of July, a ceremony was held at Tehran Assyrian Association with the participation of a number of religious minorities, the Assyrian community and ambassadors from various countries, including Russia, Lebanon, Australia, Turkey, and Georgia.
“Assyrians have presented ever-lasting services throughout history, including translating philosophy and logic from Greek into Arabic and then into Persian and medical achievements which have symbolized human science, culture and art.” said Assyrian Member of Parliament Yonathan Betkolia at the ceremony.
As per Persia Digest’s report, Assyrians, Chaldeans, Arameans, and Syriacs are ethnic groups, whose roots go back to Mesopotamia. They are Christian and speak Assyrian. They mostly live in northern Iraq, southeastern Turkey, northwestern Syria and northwestern Iran. Their population in Iran is estimated to be between 30,000 and 40,000, and they have a member in the Parliament.
