(Persia Digest) – The start of torrential rains in Mazandaran Province, northern Iran, caused great damage on Friday to roads and some houses in many towns, especially Noshahr and Chalus.
Lightning took the life of one person in Sari and another person was hospitalized in Fereydunkenar. He is said to be in a critical condition.
According to the Met Office in Noshahr, the city of Rudsar has had 254mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours, ramsar 263mm, and Noshahr 154mm.
An emergency has been declared in Hichrud. Houses have been flooded in some villages around Chalus and Hichrud. Flooding has also damaged houses in Radio Darya, Eshkar Dasht, Kharmaneh, and Zavat.
Heavy rainfall and collapsing trees also caused power cuts in certain areas.
Precipitation led to the closure of all schools in Ramsar, Tonekabon, Abbas Abad, Noshahr, Chalus, and Nour.
Rising water levels in rivers has also exacerbated the situation in Tonekabon and its surrounding villages and bridges.
The director of Iran’s Met Office forecasts warned: “Torrential rains will continue in the northern provinces for the next two days.”
