(Persia Digest) - Deputy Minister of Science, Research and Technology of Iran has said: “The General Director of the D-8 Group will arrive in Tehran tomorrow to discuss plans to set up an international university for this group in Iran with the Minister of Science, Research and Technology of Iran.”
According to Hossein Salar-Amoli, the university will be inaugurated in Hamedan either at the start of the new scholastic year, or during the second term.
He added: “The D-8 international university will be set up on Avicenna University campus as the founding university, with the aim of strengthening academic exchanges between the universities of member countries and other countries.”
Salar-Amoli stated: “This university aims to strengthen cooperation between member states through inter-university and student exchanges, and for member states to have access to an acceptable international share of these exchanges.”
He added: “The university’s activities will be in line with the aims and missions of the D-8 Group, but it will have an independent legal personality and be on par with other international universities.”
Persia Digest reports that the D-8 Group, including Bangladesh, Egypt, Nigeria, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, and Turkey, is a regional organization for economic cooperation, to strengthen the influence of these countries on global markets and establish dialogue with industrialized countries.
The main goals of the group are scientific, economic, and social development, strengthening the position of developing countries in the global economy, creating new opportunities in business relations, strengthening their presence in international decision-makings, and improving the quality of life of people living in the member states.
