(Persia Digest) – The CEO of Iranian Railways has announced that the Tehran-Istanbul railway line is in the pipeline.

Persia Digest (PD) reports that Tehran-Van and Tehran-Ankara lines have already become operational in the current year. According to travel agents, these two routes have become very popular in a short period of time. The construction of the Tehran-Istanbul train is also being planned now.

Iranian Railways CEO, Saeid Rasouli, said: “We are conducting talks for the Tehran-Istanbul line for which there has been a long-standing demand.”

He stated that research has shown this new venture will be well met and a viable project for the investors, adding: “We have included the development of tourism trains in the protocol signed by Turkey and Iran and the Turkish Ministry of Tourism and Railways has also shown interest.”

Rasouli stressed, however, that “it is not possible to set a timetable for the implementation and operation of the Tehran-Istanbul train project until a date is set for the start of works.”
