(Persia Digest) – The Austrian Ambassador to Tehran has congratulated this country for ranking first as a travel destination on the Price Competitiveness index according to a report by the World Economic Forum.
Persia Digest (PD) reports that in a new Price Competitiveness report on travel and tourism published by the World Economic Forum, Iran has been named as the most economical tourism destination among 140 countries. The devaluation of Iran’s national currency against the dollar over the past year has ranked Iran first on this index. Low airport tax, cheap fuel, and a high purchasing power for tourists who travel to Iran are some of the indicators that put Iran in first place in terms of price competitiveness.
Speaking at an Iran-Austria symposium called “Sustainable tourism with a focus on ecotourism”, the Austrian Ambassador to Iran, Stefan Schulz, congratulated Iran on the ranking, and said: “I am here today to work with Iran to help the private sector economy.”
He pointed to the start of interaction between the two countries and a roadmap for tourism approved by both counties, saying: “We are all aware of the stressful international conditions and we all know the importance of holding such a symposium in these circumstances. Our contribution to this event is a sign of Austria's determination to engage with Iran.”
He added: “Iran has a rich culture and has given the world, literature, art, and poetry. Now is the time to compensate for this country by contributing and providing appropriate solutions in the field of sustainable ecotourism.”
Persia Digest (PD) reports that the symposium on sustainable tourism with a focus on ecotourism was inaugurated in Tehran by the Austrian Embassy this morning, 25 September, in association with the University of Science and Culture and will continue until tomorrow.
