Iranian composer wins 2018 Tony Award

Jamshid Sharifi, the Iranian composer, won the 2018 Tony Award for Best Orchestrations for the musical, "The Band’s Visit". Jamshid Sharifi is an Iranian-American musician who has composed the soundtracks for films, such as “The Thomas Crown Affair”, “The Rugrats Movie”, “Harriet the Spy” and “Clockstoppers”.

World Theater Day carnivals in Iran

27 March is World Theater Day and National Day of Performing Arts in Iran. Iran is celebrating this day in 33 provinces with theatrical performances. This year, on 27 March, simultaneously with the New Year in Iran (Nowruz), the World Theater Day and Day of Performing Arts will be celebrated with performances in 33 provinces of Iran. Some of these performances are traditional and ritual native shows, and some are stage and street performances; Nowruz carnivals will be held in some of the cities.

“Deputat” staged on World Theater Day

The play "Deputat", directed by Atabak Naderi, goes on stage at the same time as World Theater Day at Shahrzad Theater multiplex on 27 March. "Deputat", which previously enjoyed a successful show at Shams Hall, once again goes on stage at Shahrzad Theater, with some changes in the cast on Nowruz holidays.

Levon Haftvan remembered in Canada

A commemoration ceremony will be held for the late Levon Haftvan by screening his movie “Kupal” at the Phoenix Cultural Center of Toronto. The Phoenix Cultural Center is managed by Amir Ganjavi. The late Levon Haftvan will be remembered at the Center on 18 March with the screening of “Kupal” at the Regent Theater Toronto. The film is directed by Kazem Molayi, starring Levon Haftvan.

Khaghani Street in Tabriz renamed “Theater” Street

Khaghani Street in Tabriz, the site of one of the oldest theaters in Iran, has been renamed “Theater” Street. Tabriz is one of the first Iranian cities to witness theatrical performances in its venues. The Armenian theater in Iran started in Tabriz, and the first play went on stage in Tabriz in 1877. After Tabriz, Armenian Iranians established theater groups in Tehran in 1878, in Jolfa-Isfahan in 1888, and in Rasht in 1921.
