(Persia Digest) - Iran's Anti-Narcotics Police Chief has responded to a lack of help from Europe in countering drugs, by saying: “Europe must pay its dues in countering drugs. If it does not support the countries on the front line of this fight, it will surely have to gather up drugs by the gram on the Continent, which is rather an impossibility.”
Persia Digest (PD) reports that Europeans are the biggest users of drugs produced in Afghanistan. In turn, Afghanistan has been the biggest producer of opium from the start of the 21st century. Iran has a long common border with Afghanistan and is the first country on the drug trafficking route to Europe. Hence, it suffers the biggest loss of life and money in fighting drugs. Iranian anti-narcotics officers are on the front line of stopping drugs from reaching their European destination that contributes very little in countering drug trafficking.

Iran's Anti-Narcotics Police Chief, Commander Mohammad-Massoud Zahedian, said: “Europe must pay its dues in countering drugs. We cannot shoulder the burden single-handedly. Our resources are not limitless. If this is not strengthened, part of the drugs is bound to get through and European countries will surely suffer.”

Zahedian added: “Not only has Afghanistan failed to counter the drug problem, Western countries who are present there today under the pretext of fighting drug trafficking have also failed to take steps to this end. To the contrary, production has increased in locations where they are present.”
Persia Digest (PD) reports that the Iranian President had previously warned European countries that tougher sanctions against the Islamic Republic will reduce its ability to counter the transit of drugs, terrorism, and flow of immigrants which will in turn threaten EU security.
