Which countries send more tourists to Iran?

(Persia Digest) – As compared to a similar period last year, 75 percent more Iraqis have traveled to Iran this spring for trade, medical tourism, and pilgrimage. It seems the volatile foreign exchange market in Iran has not affected its western neighbor’s will to travel here.

Persia Digest reports that 1MM 440 thousand people have traveled to Iran this spring, showing a 30 percent increase from the same time last year.

In the first three months of this year, Iraqi travel to Iran has increased by 75 percent as compared to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, and Turkey which show an increase of 30, 28, and 24 percent respectively.

Travel from Europe to Iran has dropped by 24 percent due to insurance problems and sanctions.

According to Khodaei, Deputy of Iran’s Tourism Organization, medical and trade tourism remain at the top of the list for travel from neighboring countries.

As reported by Persia Digest, over 5MM and 140 thousand tourists visited Iran in 2017, of which 1MM and 100 thousand came for work, resulting in a four percent increase in tourism for this country.
